Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It was the top streaming music of that time within six month. It was a mixture of pop music and reggaeton has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in 2015. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in the year 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. And in 2020 it was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Then, various artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019 The mainstreaming of reggaeton was a concern for some performers during the year the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, wanted to preserve the style. It often blended elements from electronic dance music and other forms.
